St Mary the Virgin Church
Photographed are the ruins of St Mary the Virgin Church which was built around 1254. It was restored at least twice over the years but closed for the final time in 1973.
There is a fantastic blog with a lot more info on the Church here.
Caerau Hillfort
The Church is actually built on the site of an Iron Age Hillfort - the third largest in Glamorgan and was once a stronghold of the powerful Silurian tribe who inhabited this part of Wales before the arrival of the Romans.
The Silures tribe fought off the Roman conquerors for more than 25 years and were described as "Rome's biggest headache".
There is currently a community heritage project with plans to bring the area to life and encourage more visitors. You can find more information here.
