A moderate 7.5 mile circular walk over the Dragons Back and Waun Fach.
4 hours
1,200 calories
The Dragons Back is made up of the lumps and dips of Y Grib ridge at the beginning of which is the remains of Castell Dinas - the highest castle in England and Wales. Almost all of the ascent along this walk is at the beginning and as soon as you reach the summit of Waun Fach it's a fairly even walk.
Waun Fach (811m) is the highest mountain in the Black Mountains in south-eastern Wales and the second highest in South Wales after Pen-y-Fan.
The views are spectacular and on a good day you can see the full length of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Start at the car park of the Dragons Back Pub (LD3 0EP), there is an honesty box with a £2 charge per car.
Click below for the OS map of the route. Please keep in mind that it does eat up your phone battery so it would be a good idea to take a portable charging pack with you.
