You will walk over Craig Gwilyn, through Ty’n y Coed Woods and you also get to see an ancient burial chamber.
There is a cromlech (a Bretonion / Welsh word for prehistoric building, in this case a burial chamber) in Creigiau, located in the grounds of the garden of Cae-yr-arfau House, which is named after the ancient tomb.
It dates from the Neolithic period around 3,000 B.C. and was built as a burial chamber for the local chief and his family. The Pentyrch Community Council Museum explain how it is evidence of life when the area was controlled by farmers and huntsmen in the pre-celtic age.
It’s pretty small and is actually in the driveway of a new build home on the site of what would have been the original farmhouse. The driveway is gated but it is a public right of way. I buzzed the house and was allowed in to see the chamber.
I have double checked the access rights and there is a public right of way which runs right up to the chamber from the road. Therefore the homeowner does have to let you through as it’s technically illegal to deliberately block a public footpath.
