Hay Bluff
The hill sits at the northern tip of the black mountains and looks out over the Wye Valley and Hay-on-Wye. The majority of the hill sits in Powys although parts of it do sit within Herefordshire.
Lord Hereford's Knob / Twmpa
Adjacent to Hay Bluff is Lord Hereford's Knob which stands at 690m. I have absolutely no idea how it got the name, if you could enlighten me, please do! With equally beautiful views, it was also the subject of a song by Half Man Half Biscuit and features on their album CSI:Ambleside.
The mountain also appears in the poem Wales Visitation by Allen Ginsberg, apparently written under the influence of LSD during a visit to the cottage of his publisher in the summer of 1967.
Hay-on-Wye
Only a 15 minute drive away is the wonderful market town of Hay-on-Wye. It's a book lovers dream , only spanning 1km, it is home to over 20 bookshops and hosts an annual literary festival which is well worth a visit.
The nearest postcode for the start of this route is HR3 5RJ .
