Within Radyr Woods you'll come across a pre-historic burnt mound which shows that this place was used by Bronze Age people.
Burnt Mounds are the result of heating water using hot stones. The mounds are the result of the debris from this process and are often formed over centuries.
The trail is 21 miles from Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff to Penrhys in the Rhondda and is divided into six parts .
You can find more information about the trail here.
It was originally built to carry iron 25 miles from Merthyr Tydfil to the port in Cardiff, passing through 50 locks.
This is one of the only sections of the canal left after it finally closed in 1951, you can also see two of the original locks.
Park in Hailey Park (CF14 2FQ), there are plenty of spaces but it does fill up quickly.
