Grwyne Fawr
The Grwyne Fawr Reservoir is located in the valley of the river Grwyne Fawr in the Brecon Beacons. Completed in 1928, it has the capacity to hold 400,000,000 imperial gallons.
The Bothy
Who lives in a house like this? David, it’s over to you…
Ok, no one lives here, it’s actually a bothy which is basically a hideout where hill walkers can guard against the elements and even spend the night. This former waterworks building, now turned bothy, is based at Grwyne Fawr and, according to the Mountain Bothy Association, is the smallest of all their bothies.
It’s split into two stories, an upper mezzanine level for sleeping and a ground level with a stove and a couple of chairs. A holiday home it is not but a cosy shelter from the elements it is. It does come with its own private waterfall though so that’s definitely a selling point.
There are only 9 official bothies belonging to the MBA in Wales and this is the only one in the Brecon Beacons. I’ve never actually slept in a bothy and am not overly sold on the idea, mainly because anyone could walk in at anytime and I’m not a fan of communal sleeping!
Rhos Dirion
With an elevation of 713m, this peak has trig point and is a top within Waun Fach.
